IKEA’s home inspiration magazine ‘live’ is a globally published magazine designed to inspire homeowners with ideas to furnish and decorate their homes.

The IKEA live digimag has now launched globally in 26 territories with readership increasing monthly.

The Challenge.

In collaboration with August Media, we set out to equip IKEA live's editors with the tools to deliver consumers an engaging digital magazine experience on desktop, tablet and mobile in every territory and language.

Using a fluid grid system as our starting point we created a set of flexible templates that could accommodate the varying types of content in the magazine.

Multi device IA.

One of the nicest visual elements of the magazine is the full page spread. We wanted to ensure we achieved this online in a full screen sense, no matter what device the user was on. Through creating an interactive prototype we were able to trial out the page layouts and navigation on desktop, tablet and mobile devices early in the design process.


Interface Design.

Staying true to the purity of the magazine.

Using the magazine to guide the visual direction we worked with the creative team at August to design the user interface. Our aim was to champion the stunning photography as much as possible which meant the navigational elements needed to be quiet but obvious.
