Check out Delete’s Sitecore v9 Hackathon entry
On Saturday 3rd March, two teams from Delete’s development team competed with the world's top Sitecore experts in the annual 24 hour Sitecore Hackathon. This year’s hackathon attracted 74 teams from 25 countries.
The goal was to build and submit a Sitecore module that enhanced one of the new Sitecore v. 9 features in 24 hours:
- Sitecore Commerce - recently released eCommerce platform.
- Sitecore Experience Accelerator (SxA) - a library of common out-of-box components to compose websites faster.
- xConnect - the service layer that can integrate Sitecore xDB analytics database with any other system.
Based on the one common requirement from all solutions Delete built in the last two years, we chose to build a dynamic and interactive social wall. Our idea was accepted by the Sitecore panel of judges.
We built a Social wall component for Sitecore’s SxA category. With it, a CMS user can add a social wall to any page and define multiple social feeds to aggregate and display; for example, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We believe that this reusable module will be extremely useful for many developers and organisations.
After hours of brainstorming, coding, debugging and hacking (with some short pizza breaks of course!) we did it.
The design of SxA components is configurable by developers who use the module and the above screenshot is for demonstration only.
The winners of the competition will be announced soon and we feel very confident that we’re in a good position! Not only because of the team’s hard work, but because only 28 teams actually managed to produce a working product by the deadline - with documentation, installation package and a demo (us being one of them!) Only 9 modules are in the SxA category, including Rating module, Point of interest module, Dynamic image, etc.
We thank our brilliant Sitecore developers for their ideas and successful participation.
