Freer, more daring, more experimental

From our very first conversation it was clear that the University of Essex seriously meant it when they said ‘We want to stand out, we want to be different to the rest.’ From day one our challenge was to deliver on this aspiration, creating a digital presence for the University that instantly conveys their rebellious values and makes people stand back and notice. Pushing boundaries, daring to be different and ignoring what the rest of the pack are up to. That’s what we call the ‘perfect Delete brief’.

A bold leap for the brave

As an established Top 25 UK University - The University of Essex were in need of a complete digital overhaul to re-energise their brand online and build a stronger appeal with students in a highly competitive market. Beginning with an innovation-led digital strategy programme, Delete guided the University on a bold journey to deliver a new flagship home that breaks traditions and delivers on its promise to be different.

We are Essex

Fundamental to the success of the project was the creation of a fresh, new digital identity and design system that could serve as the foundation for all aspects of the University's digital output. The We are Essex digital toolkit expresses the bold, rebellious spirit of the brand.

A tool to attract and inspire

The new site is designed by its very nature to inspire and engage prospective students to consider studying at the University. This focus ensures users can easily find and discover courses, get a flavour of the Essex Lifestyle, delve into the values and ethos of the University and be encouraged to make contact through open days and course enquiries.

Smart technology

The website is powered by the Sitecore Experience Platform and integrated with the University’s course database for all course related information. For events and customer enquiries the site is integrated with Microsoft Dynamics. Funnelback was selected to power the on-site search, whilst a direct feed of staff profiles and academics research information was created to pull information through to the front-end. Active Directory allows for single sign-on (SSO) integration for Staff.

"We wanted to create a site unlike any other university in the UK, and Delete has certainly delivered. This new digital platform puts the University of Essex at the forefront of the sector – exciting prospective students about studying with us and increasing engagement with our existing community."
